Dominick Pizzullo wanted to open a motorcycle safety gear shop. He thought it was a great business idea.
But, how could he know for sure?
Pizzullo, of Bensalem, reached out to SCORE Bucks County mentor Gene Murtha. With his business plan in hand, Pizzullo met with Murtha to review his vision of opening a retail shop in New Hope.
“He validated what I wanted to do,” Pizzullo said. “Once I was validated it just all kind of went from there.”
Pizzullo opened the shop, Route 32 Riding Gear, in the summer of 2014. The shop, which is situated in the heart of New Hope, is everything he had hoped it would be.
Had it not been for Murtha’s insight, Pizzullo said he’s not sure he would have “taken the leap.”
Coming from a background in Fortune 500 companies, Pizzullo said he didn’t know anyone personally who owns their own business. SCORE, which is comprised of volunteers with vast experience and expertise in the business world, provided that missing link.
“They’re honest. They’re straight,” Pizzullo said of SCORE Bucks County and the ongoing support he continues to receive. “They want to make sure everything is good. They keep it in perspective.”
Murtha, who serves as SCORE Bucks County Chairman, said he helped Pizzullo work through the numbers in his business plan and provided some insight on financing.
“He’s a terrific young man and living his dream,” Murtha said. “The things that satisfy us the most are to help someone get going and chase their dreams.”
